    This is a wonderful kit to buy as a beginner, intermediate or “beach/camping” ukulele player who wants to try a tenor size uke. I have been playing a concert-sized Cordoba 15CM for the past couple of years and I love the sound and quality of that instrument, but wanted to try the slightly larger size of a tenor ukulele. I did a lot of research and the Ranch product received enough rave reviews that I figured I’d try it. It has turned out to greatly exceed my expectations in all respects.

    Pros: – great quality construction
    – the wood and polish look very rich and don’t look cheap at all
    – keeps in tune
    – fullyw enclosed all-metal tuning gears
    – includes Aquila nylgut strings (these make all the difference in sound and play)
    – frets are well placed, smooth, and the right height for fast chording
    – the slightly rounded back helps make the sound rich and quite loud without sounding tinny or cheap

    Cons: – the included tuner device is okay, but not great… I use my KLIQ Ubertuner instead (it’s great!)
    – I don’t usually use a strap when playing, but I found that the included strap is just okay for holding the instrument, if you want to use a strap at all.
    – This Ranch tenor uke weighs only about an ounce heavier than my concert sized Cordoba, even though it’s 3 inches longer and the center of gravity is about an inch further up the neck than the Cordoba concert uke. It feels a little “neck heavy” to me because the body is so light, but I got adjusted pretty easily to this.

    All in all, I think this is a great sounding, high quality, easy to play ukulele that I’m happy to use for pretty much any purpose and proud to take to jam sessions.

    Overall a great buy. Love the feel and the sound. A little louder than expected, made me smile. The neck strap is a bit smaller (shorter) than I’d prefer. Gig bag has a tough durable outer shell and a good zipper. Padding is minimal.

    My Ranch Tenor ukulele is unexpectedly good for the price: nice tone, good volume, good finish. Both the nut and the saddle required filing in order to adjust the too-high action, but it now sounds great and is easy to play.

    The Ukulele has strap buttons but you sent a strap that will work with it. Provide a better strap that is consistent with the hardware on the Ukulele. Provide a little better instruction with the tuner so people know to go to Uc scale on the unit to tune their instrument. It is in the instructions but hard to find. Let people know that it may take over a week of constant tuning for the Ukulele to hold tune (still working on this one here).

    Hi. Because of the curved back (or bottom) the Ranch Ukuleles have a richer sound than the run of the mill. Also, there may be a superior selection of wood. There are now 4 Ranch Ukuleles in our group. Thanks, Rex

    I ordered the tenor after I got the concert ukulele. I really like both. I wish the tenor came in left handed, but I just tuned it backward and play it left handed. Both hold tune very well so far.

    It’s a pretty good product. The tuner that came with the product didn’t work. I downloaded a tuner and finally got the uke tuned. The sound is great!

      There is a plastic film under the battery, you should take it off before use.

      After you take out the plastic film, if the tuner can be turned on and used, that would be lovely. If the tuner still doesn’t work, I will re-send you a new tuner. In this case, could you confirm your shipping address by replying my email? I also sent you an email.

    Plays nice, Has a solid tenor “echo” to it, the strap is very nice just a little difficult to get it on at first and the case has a very good zipper as opposed to other uke starter kit cases such as vizcaya.

  1. Q Can you ship with low g string?
    A Thanks for your question. I am sorry we don't ship with low g string. If you want a uke with low g string, you may replace the high g string with low g one by yourself~
  2. Q The concert states 38mm nut head which is 1.5". But the last question states the nut head is the same for the concert and tenor at 1.4", which is 35.5mm. Please explain.
    A Thanks for asking. The concert uke that states 38mm nut head is a wide fingerboard uke specially designed for people with big hands, which is sold out for now. Our 21'', 23'' and 26'' uke are all with 35mm nut head. Hope it helps~
